Elythril - the Match-3 and Paint-it-all Elf Treasure

 

This game reminds me of an old fantasy book sort of Tolkien's Lord of the Ring. Mainly that's because it's not just a mere multilevel puzzler, but a long fairy tale settled with many magic creatures where a player is considered a title character.

 

Game Plot. Leorna, a beautiful Elfin princess, has recently been very concerned about the disorder in all of the Elfin lands. Since the ancient times elves managed to settle in every possible place - in the wood, undersea, in the highlands and even on the Moon. But during one of the good-versus-evil wars their sacred talisman was lost; and since that time there has been no peace and unity between them.

 

So, you'll have to face numerous challenges on your 80-level-long way full of tricky mysteries and traps on each of 15 locations.

 

No matter where you travel, - either in the forest or under sea, your way will be full of enigmas. All you need is to solve the magical puzzle.

 

Elythril begins as an adventure game - with a picturesque map consisting of 15 locations. As you put your mouse cursor upon each of them, you'll see a preview of each level. Unfortunately, you cannot start with any level as all of them are locked in the beginning just like in Big Kahuna Reef  2.  

 

Rules. Well, to me, a playing field of Elythril looks very much like a tricky pattern made of magical herbs.

 

The main point of the game is to form and paint different geometricals by placing the gems of the same color to the corners of these geometricals.

 

As you do so, and say, place 3 red gems in the form of triangle, the part of the field within this triangle will be painted red. So, your task is to paint every piece of the playing field in the same manner.  Controls are as easy as a piece of cake:

 

1. Pick a stone and click on it with a mouse.

2. Move it to the desired blank place.

3. Drag three or more stones of the same color and bring them together.

 

How to Play. In each level, the magical herbs make up a geometrical consisting of a number of smaller geometricals of different shapes. As you place several elfin gems of the same color at every corner of such geometrical, you will cast away the evil spell. Once a match is created, you will see the part of the playing field being painted with the color of the gems. What is difficult about it - is that you will have to paint the whole scheme, sometimes you should paint it in a solid color.  It is not that easy. Me, I had to rearrange the gems about two hundred times before I was able to paint the smallest piece of the playing field. And certainly, the game is getting more and more complicated with each step you make.

 

Graphics and Music is decidedly the mix that brings Elythril: The Elf Treasure to the rank of elf movie. Sounds are simply magical and realistic - especially the ones you hear while moving stones and in the beginning of the level.

 

Just like in a fairy-tale graphics are getting more marvelous with each level. Each of the episodes features new stone patterns and live background paintings.

 

You can play enjoying the view of eternal fire, or sinking water. 

Though puzzles are getting more and more complicated, your task can be made easier if you use numerous bonuses such as a bomb and any-color-matching stone.

 

Cons. The only drawback I could notice is that on the level change the game is somewhat slow. At the end of each level, the playing field fades away at a snail's pace. At the same pace the new level appears. Or maybe that's just my stupid computer?

 

Pros. Having completed a couple of levels in Elythril, you will train your logic and color matching skills. Besides the basic colors, color tints are used in the game. So, you are to think over very properly where to place the next gem.
