Shaman Odyssey: Tropic Adventure -
Gathering Your People
Shaman Odyssey: Tropic Adventure is the latest release to the
genre of strategy games. This sim tropical island-themed game developed
and published by Cateia Games gets you to guide and control a
tribe of villagers.
As a tribe's shaman you are to lead the
tribe to their new permanent home.
Yes, as weird as it sounds, but you
are to play as shaman. After having been visited by an ancestral spirit
you are tasked to reunite the tribe that had been scattered to different
islands.
Reunion of the tribe isn't your only mission. You are also to take them
to a place that will be their new permanent home.
The game gives you a short tutorial that seems more confusing than
helping since it gives you too much information all at once. In total
you are to accomplish 22 missions with certain objectives each.
Each mission is set on a small
tropical island, and although the layout is slightly different each
time, every island contains the same fundamentals: a beach where you can
collect seashells, a grassy area where you can harvest herbs for making
potions, and various constructions sites that you can click on to build
structures.
Life on the islands is no different from that for us. At least the major
principle works the same way - everything costs you something. So if
you want to build or brew a potion for the first time you need to get
the blueprint of it or collect the herbs.
And while the tribepeople are busy
with building and working you run around the island searching for the
seashells and herbs.
The game is not crazy challenging. Only a few levels are timed so the
rest of the time you can relax and take your time.
What's a bit annoying is that having done your job you are to wait till
the tribepeople finish their part, which isn't that much fun.
The game features nice 3-D graphics but
the story and the challenges can be still improved.
