Alabama Smith: Escape from Pompeii - Well Done!
And again we were lucky to be introduced to another high-polished hidden-object game - Alabama Smith: Escape from Pompeii. This puzzle game from Alawar Entertainment gets on a journey in search of a ancient amulet.
The story of the game won't be a WOW-thing for the gurus of the genre.
It's quite usual for the games of this type to invite you to the search of something mysterious and dangerous and extremely important.
This time you follow young student's search of an amulet. Alabama Smith is the student who proved to be quite good at the department of their school.
And so now he is privileged to be sent of a journey with a task of high importance - to find a lost amulet.
The graphics of the story are in a hand-drawn style while those in the game levels are high quality photorealistic ones. The music and sounds also match the scenes and fit it very well.
What's really unusual is that you don't get a list of things to find, then a puzzle game, then all over again.
When you get to a location, you can find the tasks that you are to accomplish shown in the right bottom corner.
Usually it is to find or to fix or to get something in order to proceed in the game. Which is kind of fun because you stay on the track of the story line.
The hints can be used as many times as you need once they are refilled. It's not enough sometimes though. The game splits into the two modes - Expert and Casual after the first location, so my advice - take the choice seriously.
There are mini-games, but they usually go as a part of your search of the location or a means to accomplish one of the tasks.
All in all the game is very satisfying - it's got lots to offer without being ashamed for it.
