Reading the Dead
If you are a fan of the detective stories in movies and books, then you will most probably like Reading the Dead. That's because this game allows you to be fully involved into the procedure of investigating a case. Those who like brighter invironments might not enjoy it that much.
So you can expect quite a few dialogues to read as you progress.
One of the first things that I've noticed about the game is that there is no voice-acting at all, and you have to read the whole story. So as you read you find out that you play as a young female FBI detective. You join her on her way to the crime scene. As she arrives and investigates the scene something strange happens and she gets connected with the murdered businessman in some mysterious way.
She understands that through this strange interaction she is guided by the victim to the answers to all of the questions that the crime raises. There is a team of people you are going to work with along the way. So you can expect quite a few dialogues to read as you progress.
The game is a typical hidden object/adventure release that are so popular today. But here, alot of things are very detective-themed. So if you are at a crime scene, for example, you are to look for blood and drag marks, footsteps etc. You are also to take pictures of a body and other things important for the investigation.
There are many items that work as inventory to achieve along-the-way goals. The game is very helpful on what to do next giving you instructions at the bottom of the screen. There is a hint system for the hidden object levels on a rechargable basis. The puzzle that you get to play every once in a while are skippable if they turn out to be boring or too challenging for you.
The graphics are absolutely beautiful with all the details and shades that they have. But some of the scenes were too dark for the hidden object searches. Sometimes it was even hard to see what is it there in the heap of stuff. But you can tell the the graphics are quite polished and render this dark and creepy atmosphere.
Reading the Dead is one of those games that get you totally absorbed with everything that's going on in it. Though as I mentioned in the beginning it might not seem that attractive for those that are fond of something more colorful and happy without dead bodies around.
If you are a fan of the detective stories in movies and books, then you will most probably like Reading the Dead.
