World of Goo - They Need Your Physics Knowledge!
If you are good in physics and like brain teaser games, then the one I'm going to talk about
was made exactly for you! If physics was not your strongest point at school, this game is
perfect to try and enjoy physics lwa while having enormous fun interacting with the
Gooballs, the main characters in the World of Goo! The game from 2D Boy is a genuinely
unique and fascinating example of how very simple graphics and game play can be turned into
one of the best games the industry has ever had!
What is a Gooball? Nobody knows, but they are fun to play with!
So, you will find yourself in the weird and very funny world of even more weird and funny
creatures called Gooballs - and start helping them get to the pipe leading to the Goo
Corporation - a place where everyone can paly with them trying to get to the top. The game
play is nothing you saw before, but it's quite intuitive so once you get it everything will
be perfectly clear. Just don't forget to read the signposts on every level for helpful tips
on what to do.
Your main action is dragging and dropping. For every level (those are organized in chapters
you pass one by one) you have a limited number of Gooballs and some distance to the pipe,
possibly with obstacles like blades popping your balls or gates to be opened with the help
of baloons. Your task is to help a certain number of balls (that is the level goal) get to
the pipe by using some of them for building a tower. Basically it's that you take free ball
and connect it to the tower made of others and their offsprings to make it higher or longer
or just extend the construction in any direction you need. There will be different species
of Gooballs, some of them can be reused, some not. It might seem quite complicated and
unclear, but you have just to try it and you'll see what I mean very soon. It's a game you
need to feel rather than read about, actually.
So, when your balls get to the pipe, the ones you haven't used are collected to the
container. If you managed to save enough of them to pass the level, you progress further. If
you managed to save more then needed, the extra ones are sent to the Goo Corporation where
you can play with them tring to get something good that is believed there is. The
Corporation is a zone where you can try to build the highest tower in the world using your
extra balls and, if you have Internet connection, you can see other players online and their
towers.
The graphics and sounds are very well thought over so that they create the perfect
atmosphere of the World.
On the whole, I highly recommend everyone to try World of Goo - I just couldn't make myself
stop and go write this review!
