comWhen you wrote about your coupon clsesas, I wanted so badly to go. Gas was close to $4 a gallon then, so it didn't seem plausible (I live in College Station, Texas). But now that gas has gone down it may be workable. Of course, even with higher gas prices, I'm sure I would have more than made up for the expense on what I would learn.Right now, I'm (out of necessity) spending about $50 a week on groceries for a family of 8. We are pretty much eating beans and rice, or beans and bread, or beans and corn . . . well, you get the picture. Now, I believe I can spend the same amount of money and eat a lot more pleasant food. I've started with CVS and Walgreens and haven't paid for toothpaste, toothbrushes, deodorant or razors for a couple of months. I made the most I could out of the Kroger's deals these past couple of weeks, but I didn't have many coupons. By the time I checked HCW, ebay and even the clipper sites, all the good ones were taken. So, that's my first question: How far ahead do you start gathering coupons? Do you check the advance previews on HCW or Taylortown? My head is spinning from the amount of information I've been trying to process. On your site, I went back to January 2008 (because, yes, I'm a nerd, but I also wanted to get as much information as I could in order to try to duplicate your success). I noticed that, early on, your tally was more like, I've got $800 to spend, plus whatever else I can add from ebay, surveys, etc. Even this past month, for example, you added $3 from a survey site. So, my question is, how did you decide on this amount and method, as opposed to a budget of $XXX for groceries and HBA and then add additional earnings to your mortgage or retirement funds? Do you keep track of how much you've added to the original amount and will that affect your budget/goal for next year?Since I have been doing the CVS and Walgreens deals, when I looked back at the January posts, I realized that you had ECBs and gift card amounts that you didn't include in your $800 total. Now I understand that it doesn't matter because you'll probably have as much (if not more!) remaining on those accounts at the end of the year, haha. Okay, sorry for the tome, here. I can't tell you how much I've enjoyed reading your blog. Your daughters are absolutely beautiful! What a joy they must be.Vivian |
